Designed in 2003 by the HRSA as a construction project for its members, the Elwood is a 1950s style superhet receiver.
Construction of the rounded 50s style cabinet was made easy by the use of special bending ply that could easily be formed around the cabinet ends and the availability to members of full-size templates for the front and rear cabinet panels.
The circuit was specifically designed to use readily available parts. The valves chosen were all common TV types that have little use in most radios but are still cheap and plentiful.
